For the fifth consecutive year, The Ohio State University has been named a top producer of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and is tied for 13th in the nation, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs announced today.
Fifteen students – nine undergraduate and six graduate – were awarded the prestigious Fulbright grant for the 2023-24 academic year. Ohio State also had five Fulbright U.S. scholar and six Fulbright specialist recipients during the award cycle. In the last five years, Ohio State has produced 51 faculty and 75 student Fulbright awardees, and this year’s graduate student and specialist awards were record numbers in these categories.
“The Fulbright program offers unique opportunities for our students and faculty to connect with many different cultures across the globe through teaching, research and community engagement,” said Kaya Şahin, vice provost for global strategies and international affairs. “It is a life-changing and enriching academic experience, and we are proud that Ohio State is once again recognized as a top producer.”
Ohio State’s Fulbright students, scholars and specialists traveled to 22 different countries and represent the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, Education and Human Ecology, Medicine, Public Affairs, Social Work and the Office of International Affairs.

I attribute our consecutive success to our faculty and staff supporting these talented students, and the vast opportunities at our university to engage in academic experiences beyond the classroom.”
As part of the university’s commitment to global engagement and to encourage students, faculty and staff to apply for Fulbright awards, Ohio State annually hosts Fulbright Week to promote the Fulbright program through a series of events including workshops, presentations and other activities. This year Fulbright Week will be held March 25 – 29 with both virtual and in-person activities and information sessions.
Over 2,200 U.S. students and over 900 U.S. colleges and university faculty and administrators are awarded Fulbright grants annually. In addition, 4,000 Fulbright Foreign Students and Visiting Scholars come to the United States annually to study, lecture, conduct research or teach their native language. Fulbright is active in more than 160 countries.
